Scamper (accessible version)
Analyse something according to the SCAMPER principle - what could be substituted, combined, adapted, modified, put to other uses, eliminated or rearranged?.
Step 1. Firstly, describe the problem, issue, theme, or need. For example, "I want to design an environmentally friendly carrier bag". When you have done this, move on to step 2
Step 2. Describe what could be Substituted. When you have done this, move on to step 3
Step 3. Describe what could be Combined with something else (for example, could a blend or assortment with other things be possible? When you have completed this, go to step 4.
Step 4. Describe what could be Adapted i.e. could anything be changed to get to the solution to your problem or issue? When you have done this, go to step 5.
Step 5. Describe what could be Modified i.e. could you change the meaning, colour, smell, form, shape of the thing? When you have done this, go to step 5.
Step 6. Describe what could be Put to other uses i.e. are there new ways to use the thing or issue without changing it? When you have done this, go to step 5.
Step 7. Describe what could be Eliminated i.e. is there anything that is currently going to waste that could be removed from the problem or issue? When you have done this, go to step 5.
Step 8. Describe what could be Rearranged i.e. could anything be changed around or switched with something else? When you have done this, go to step 5.
Once all these steps have been finished, your assignment is complete.
